Early Life
Burak Berkay Akgül was born in Istanbul on February 24, 1997. Before entering the world of acting, he studied geological engineering at Istanbul University. His artistic path began later, when he enrolled at the 35.5 Academy, where he trained in art-house acting and on-camera performance. He continues to polish his craft under the management of the Renda Güner Agency, where he remains one of the represented talents.
Career
Akgül’s first screen appearance came in 2020, when he played Rüzgar in the TV series Maria ve Mustafa, starring Jessica May and Hilmi Cem İntepe. A year later he appeared as İlker in Kahraman Babam. Later in 2021 he portrayed Kaya Tegin in the historical series Destan.
Beyond television, Akgül joined the cast of Ru, a Disney+ production. He replaced Mert Yazıcıoğlu and shared the screen with Meryem Uzerli.
In 2023 he took on the role of Yaman, the middle brother in ATV’s drama Safir, the project that brought him widespread recognition. In 2024, he appeared in Star TV’s Sahipsizler, playing Devran. Today Akgül continues to build his career actively in both television and digital projects.
Personal Life
Back in 2020, while filming Maria ve Mustafa, Burak Berkay Akgül met actress Hira Koyuncuoğlu — his co-star and on-screen partner in the series. Their connection soon moved off camera as well. The two didn’t hide their feelings, often sharing moments together openly on social media. Their relationship came to an end in 2023, during the period when Akgül was working on Safir.
Not long after, he grew close to his Safir co-star Özge Yağız. Both have publicly maintained that their relationship started only after filming wrapped, though reports from inside the production told a slightly different story — that their connection may have started on set, when each was still in another relationship. As of now, the couple remains together.
